OSI Group President David McDonald Hails From Humble Midwestern Roots

OSI Group is considered one of the largest companies in the US food industry today. Originating in the Chicago area, the organization is now globally located throughout North America and Europe. David McDonald, the firm’s President and Chief Operating Officer, is one of the main reasons behind why the firm has experienced such a tremendous amount of growth. The company is more than 100 years old. OSI Group has its international headquarters in the mid-western section of the country, specifically in Aurora, Illinois. David McDonald has the deep roots of the Midwest in him as well. He was born, raised, and educated in Iowa.

David was brought up on a farm, and he attended Iowa State University. He still has very close ties to his Iowa roots and to the university, at which he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science. OSI Group was the first job out of college for David McDonald. The firm was originally a manufacturer and distributor of meat only, and it later added produce, dairy, and bakery products to its manufacturing end. They serve the food service industry and the retail food industry. Their clients are well-known brands, including Starbucks, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, and more.

OSI’s first major account came in the mid-1950s, when they became the primary beef supplier to the first McDonald’s restaurant. David McDonald has been with the firm for over 30 years. He began his career there as project manager. His role as President now encompasses running a global company consisting of 20,000 employees in over 18 countries, and with over 66 food production facilities. They have acquired and partnered with major food companies around the world, including the Dutch-owned Baho Food. Baho Food distributes their complementary product line of foods to many companies in countries across Europe. David McDonald continues to seek expansion opportunities across the globe for OSI Group.
