Like many aspects of everyday life in United States society, the internet influences many things. This influence even reaches into the airline industry, where technology makes everyday operations from takeoff to landing more efficient and safe. Certain smart and savvy captains of industry, like Jason Hope, are paying close attention to the advances being made in their field of service. And, they really like what they see so far and hold high hopes for the future.
When it comes to safety and security, there are measures that can feel like an inconvenience even if they are really worth the time and effort. However with Bluetooth beacon technology, these safety measures are much more streamlined and cohesive in their collective effectiveness. For example, Virgin Atlantic has Boeing 787 airplanes that connect to a wireless network. This results in safety and maintenance alerts that are shared with ground crews the moment action is needed. They also share information about toolboxes and the condition of safety equipment.
These technological systems also works well for keeping passengers well informed about their baggage and SENS foundation, with beacons attached to luggage tags that share information regarding their location. There is also a good use for this networking system when it comes to making check-ins easier. And, there is more that this tech can do for passengers. If they find themselves turned around and disorientated from travel, their Bluetooth connection to a network can send them directions. In the event that being turned around has wasted too much of their time, flight take off times and reminders to board can be sent to their devices alerting them of the situation.Advances like this are the type of things that really pique the interest of philanthropist, entrepreneur and futurists Jason Hope. For him, being involved with what is going on in the world and what is coming next is the best that he can truly give back to the community at large. Perhaps that is why he holds a degree from Arizona State University and an MBA from W.P. Carey School of Business.
It might come as a huge surprise to some folks that crime inside the jail is far worse than when these suspects were out on the street. As a corrections officer, on a daily basis I see inmates beaten, stabbed, and severely injured to the point they need to be hospitalized for months. When the inmates aren’t hurting each other, they turn that aggression to the guards, so we have to be on our toes every second of every day.
These inmates have an edge over us in a number of ways. The inmates outnumber the officers 4:1 in most cases, they have the element of surprise on their side, and they have access to weapons they can use to cause severe bodily harm. In order to limit the trouble, we have to eliminate the weapons threat, but that is easier said than done. We try to check each visitor that comes to see the inmates, but these inmates are very crafty at getting what they need.
Once the inmates have the weapons, they have to conceal them until they are to be used. So we are constantly performing surprise cell inspections to uncover these weapons. Even when we show up unannounced, the inmates are one step ahead, hiding things in the yard or in locations of the jail we don’t check. Recently, Securus Technologies installed an inmate call system that has given us a tool we can use to combat these violent episodes.
I was trained on the Securus Technologies phone system and LBS software, and within days I was able to pick up chatter between inmates and their families discussing getting weapons through the visitors center. Their coded messages were no match for the software, and we now are spotting those weapons long before they ever can get into the hands of the inmates.

OSI Group began as a meat market in Illinois. Otto Kolschowsky was a German immigrant who launched his company in the early nineteen-hundreds. He started by supplying quality meat to individual customers around the Oak Park, Illinois area. He soon grew the business into a provider for other food organizations. Local restaurants and supermarkets relied on the upstart company for quality service. Otto named his company Otto and Sons in 1928.
Over the years the meat provider developed a solid reputation around the area for being the best in the industry. Some years later Otto and Sons would cross paths with Ray Kroc. Ray Kroc was the head of a fast-growing restaurant chain known as McDonald’s in the 1950s. Crop was looking to establish a presence in the Chicago, Illinois area and called on Otto and Sons to support him in his efforts. The relationship between the two companies grew strong over the years and eventually Otto and Sons became the primary meat supplier for the McDonald’s operation.
Otto and Sons eventually changed its name to OSI Group. The company has worldwide interests and is an equal opportunity employer. They have grown to acquire other companies such as Tyson Foods, Baho Foods and Flagship Europe. Their client base includes major chains such as Papa John’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Subway and Starbucks. Forbes listed OSI Group as one of the country’s largest private businesses with a revenue stream of over three billion dollars. OSI Group operates in several different areas with plants in Riverside, California, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Iowa and West Chicago.
